The thing about the politics of Resetera is, they just use it as a weapon to beat companies they don't like with. The way they were talking about companies' responses to the BLM protests, posing it as a competition between giant capitalist entities using it to make money, was frankly disgusting. "Performatively woke" is spot on, compared to actually progressive spaces it is very different, there's little woke about it beyond the handful of genuine progressives in every thread pointing out the blinding hypocrisy of it all, most of whom get ignored entirely. Still miles better than what Neogaf turned into!

Honestly, it's fine to lurk in because there is a huge volume of content posted regarding news, rumours, leaks, etc. It's the easiest place to find info on game sales, and there is that excellent thread with the known sales of every Nintendo game ever (https://www.resetera.com/threads/2725/).

However, I would recommend avoiding actual discussion because man, the console wars are alive and well, despite them having a ban on console wars.

I like playing as Sharla because when you are mopping up weaker enemies for quests she is ridiculously efficient due to her range, especially with headshot.

If you treat Pikachu as "Noble Nine level" then the question is more interesting (since that also rules out GSC). I kinda suspect it's Xenoblade, even if I still have trouble thinking of that as Nintendo.

Xenoblade is actually significantly more Nintendo than Pokmon! Nintendo only owns a third of Pokmon, splitting it with Game Freak and Creatures Inc. Xenoblade however, is 100% owned by Nintendo and developed by a first arty studio unlike most Pokmon games.

Thats significant! GDC too. Nobody talks about Death Stranding as a GOTY winner without bringing up that site, because it didnt win any major awards.

There are several issues with this method. One is that not all fan polls are created equal. GameFAQss still get more votes than many others combined. This will apply for outlets as well - a massive global site is different from one with a staff of two. Another is methodology. Death Stranding won the IGN poll on 17% of the vote - not exactly the will of the people. Theres also the issue of reporting. If all outlets are eligible that means that there are likely to be many that are simply not reported, biasing the results. This is going to be especially true for small international sites and papers which is where a lot of the Death Stranding support comes from.

The best representation of industry consensus is probably The Game Awards because of how they are decided.

Only with fan polls, for official awards its Resident Evil 2. And Sekiro won TGA which is also an aggregate award in a sense.

But also I have never heard of almost all of the places giving Death Stranding awards. Lots of very small sites and blogs. That is the issue with just counting overall wins and not weighting them. Outer Wilds didnt win that many in raw number, but it got the BAFTA which is a huge deal.

Anyway, Cyberpunk is the big threat to TLoU in terms of awards. On here it could be FFVII Remake but I can actually see that behind TLoU and Cyberpunk. Still a lot up in the air.

For TGA, I have a feeling that the nominees will be Animal Crossing, FFVII Remake, TLoU Part II, Cyberpunk and something else - maybe Half-Life Alyx.

Theyre doing their own thing in Warzone probably. That is a very likely launch game as well. Definitely cutting it fine on the announcement though.

I also forgot that NBA was shown and is a launch game. Madden is confirmed at launch as well, so yes, sports.

Ratchet didnt have a timeframe. Not only would I not expect it at launch, I wouldnt necessarily expect it next year either. As a general rule if they dont at least put a year with the trailer dont expect it any time soon!

The launch games shown were:

Astros Playroom (pre-loaded on the PS5)
Godfall
Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Bugsnax

We also know Assassins Creed Valhalla, Outriders (assuming it doesnt get delayed) and the Observer remaster. Yep that is a console launch alright.

I think its fair to judge games that are inadvertently outdated once they release if they are trying to say something. It might be unavoidable, but its no less an issue.

I wasnt mad about Horizon, but one of the things I liked about it was that it presents a post-apocalypse that is a fully functioning cooperative society.

To be fair standalone expansions have existed for almost as long as expansions. Its a silly phrase but it makes sense. Its extra content you dont need the original to play.

Also ideally you would play as both in 2.

I would err saying that video games don't have to have fun or even GOOD gameplay but the element of interaction is what you are looking for in the medium. And I cant speak for others but sometimes just being able to move around in the world does the trick for me.

Death Stranding has fun gameplay though, and the story is hot garbage.

To me the only game that really looked next gen was, somewhat surprisingly, Ratchet and Clank. It also looked like the only one that was really taking advantage of the PS5 with the switching. The rest looked like PS4 games, and almost all of them are!

To update the earlier list of exclusives Jett is confirmed to be coming to PS4 by the way.

Names are pretty key when selling a game, but Ive actually seen a lot of negativity, namely at how janky it looked. I dunno, obviously weve not seen much. But that seems to be the dud here, which is a shame because Housemarque are cool.

The most negativity has definitely been against Ghostwire Tokyo. But that has had positivity to counter it too.
